What Is Core Aeration & Overseeding?
Core aeration and overseeding is the single most impactful annual service for cool season lawns in Hampton Roads. A mechanical aerator pulls plugs from your lawn, creating channels that let air, water, and nutrients reach deep into the root zone — reducing compaction, improving drainage, and promoting deeper rooting.
Immediately after aeration, we apply certified Blue Tag Tall Fescue seed at 7 pounds per 1,000 square feet for direct seed-to-soil contact and maximum germination.
Why Fall Is the Best Time
We schedule aeration and overseeding from early September through October, when Hampton Roads delivers the 60–80 degree temperatures tall fescue needs to germinate. Fall means optimal soil temperatures, less weed competition, seasonal rainfall, and time for new grass to root before winter.
