Typically, it only takes a single round of aeration to loosen the soil. However, if your soil receives excessive foot or pet traffic or has a heavy clay subsoil, it could be more compact and may require a double pass of the aerator.
What is our core aeration schedule?
Both warm-season and cool-season grasses are found in Virginia. Warm-season grasses tend to thrive in temperatures of about 75 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit, while cool-season grasses prefer temperatures of about 60 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Because these two grass types thrive at different times of the year, we will aerate your lawn at the time of year that works best with your grass type. We aerate warm-season grasses like Bermuda and Zoysia in the spring (between April and May), while we aerate cool-season grasses like Fescue in the fall (between September and early November). Catering our core aeration schedule to your grass type ensures that the aeration treatment will be as effective as possible for your lawn.
We also offer optional overseeding in conjunction with our core aeration service.
You can sign up for just our core aeration service, just our overseeding service, or both. We typically offer these programs together because overseeding immediately after core aeration is twice as beneficial for your lawn as doing either of the treatments individually. After the cores of soil have been removed from your lawn, there are many holes left behind; by overseeding your lawn right after aerating, the new grass seeds will fill these holes and have a much better chance at taking root and growing successfully. Because of this, we offer overseeding as an optional add-on service in conjunction with our core aeration service.
