What Is the Holiday Lighting Installation Program?

Our Holiday Lighting Installation Program is a full-service, lease-based holiday decor solution for residential and commercial properties. We handle everything from design to removal — you simply enjoy the display. All lighting materials are commercial-grade, the same quality used at large professional displays like Newport News Park and the Virginia Beach Boardwalk. These lights are more durable, use less electricity, and look dramatically better than anything available at a retail store. Because this is a lease program, Meadow Lawn and Pest owns all materials. We supply them, install them, maintain them throughout the season, remove them after the holidays, and store them for future use. Customers have zero responsibilities for equipment, storage, or maintenance. It is truly a hands-free holiday experience.

Commercial-Grade Lighting Materials We Use

We use two types of commercial-grade lighting to create a complete, polished display. For rooflines, eaves, and peaks, we install C9 commercial-grade bulbs on custom-fitted strands built to the exact measurements of your roofline sections. Bulbs are spaced at 12-inch intervals for a clean, uniform appearance. For decorative accents, we use G5 mini light strands — 35-foot sections used to wrap porch railings, columns, posts, shrubs, foundation plantings, tree trunks, and entryways. Both light types use weatherproof electrical connections and heavy-duty hardware rated for outdoor use and extreme weather. Color options include traditional warm white, multicolor, all white, or a mixed combination. All materials remain the property of Meadow Lawn and Pest and should not be modified, relocated, or stored by the customer.

Everything Included in Your Program

Every installation includes a custom design consultation, all lighting materials, professional installation labor, programmable electronic timers, mounting clips, and supply cords. There are no hidden add-ons — everything needed to create a complete display is part of your program price. During the design consultation, we evaluate your property, take measurements, discuss your color and style preferences, identify outlet locations, and create a plan tailored to your home. We program your timer to automatically turn lights on at dusk and off at 11 PM or midnight. After installation, we fully test the display before leaving and leave a door hanger with your timer settings and our contact information. Ongoing emergency repair service is also included throughout the active season — if anything malfunctions, we return to fix it at no charge.

Professional Installation by Insured Technicians

All work is performed by trained, licensed, and insured technicians following OSHA safety guidelines and electrical code requirements. We use professional equipment including ladders and safety harnesses where needed to safely access all roofline areas. Lights are mounted using non-damaging commercial-grade clips specifically designed to attach to gutters, shingles, or trim without drilling holes, puncturing surfaces, or leaving permanent marks. Electrical connections are weather-sealed for safety and reliability. After installation is complete, we run a full lighting test before our technicians leave your property to confirm everything is working correctly. Installations are limited to areas that are safely accessible with standard equipment. We will decline to install in areas with rotted rooflines, unstable structures, or unsafe access conditions to protect both your property and our technicians.

Active Season Support and Emergency Repairs

If any portion of your display stops working during the active season, contact us and we will dispatch a repair technician within 24 hours during normal business hours, Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM. Service calls are included in your program at no additional charge. Common repairs include bulb replacement, socket repair, strand replacement, timer adjustment, and power troubleshooting. A complete section going dark, significant weather damage, or a timer failure all qualify as emergency repairs. Individual bulb burnouts that do not affect overall appearance are addressed during routine maintenance checks. If the problem is related to your home electrical system — such as a tripped breaker or faulty outlet — that will need to be resolved on your end before we can service the display equipment.

End-of-Season Removal and Off-Season Storage

After the holiday season, we return to your property in early to mid-January to completely remove all lighting components, including timers, cords, and clips. Our technicians handle removal carefully to protect your gutters, shingles, and landscaping. We then inspect all materials, transport everything to our climate-controlled storage facility, and label and inventory your specific components for use the following year. Your custom-fitted strands are stored intact so they are ready for fast, efficient reinstallation next season. You have zero storage burden — no tangled lights in your garage, no damaged equipment, and no missing clips to sort through. Because we store your exact strands, returning customers benefit from faster installation times and automatically qualify for a 20 percent discount on roofline lighting in year two and beyond.

Program Timeline and Scheduling

The holiday lighting season begins with pre-season planning in September and October, when new customers schedule design consultations and measurements are taken. Custom-fitted strands are fabricated in October through early November. Installation season runs from mid-October through mid-December, with the majority of installations completed by December 15th. Exact dates depend on when you enroll, weather conditions, and technician availability. Enrolling in September or October gives you the most scheduling flexibility. Late November through early December is the peak installation period, so earlier enrollment is strongly recommended if you have a preferred date. Lights remain active from late November through early January. Removal is scheduled in early to mid-January, and off-season storage continues from February through September until the next program cycle begins.

What Is Not Included in This Program

This program covers holiday lighting for exterior rooflines and architectural features only. It does not include interior decorating, ground-staking displays, animated figures, or any custom requests not part of the standard offering. We do not install customer-owned lighting materials — our insurance and warranty coverage apply only to equipment we supply. We do not make permanent electrical modifications or install new outlets. If your property lacks adequate exterior outlet access, you will need to hire a licensed electrician separately. We do not guarantee specific installation or removal dates, as scheduling depends on weather and technician availability. We also do not return mid-season to add sections or modify the design once installation is complete, unless a paid mid-season modification service call is scheduled for a fee of $125 plus materials.

Why Professional Installation Beats DIY

DIY holiday lighting may seem cheaper upfront, but the full picture tells a different story. Most homeowners spend 8 to 12 hours installing lights, then additional hours removing and storing them. Retail lights typically last 1 to 3 years before failing, compared to 10 or more years for commercial-grade equipment. Ladder-related holiday injuries send over 14,000 people to the emergency room every year — professional installers have training, equipment, and insurance to handle this safely. Our commercial-grade LED lights also use 80 to 90 percent less electricity than traditional incandescent strings, keeping your seasonal electricity costs around $15 to $30 for the entire season. When you factor in time, safety, replacement costs, and the superior appearance of a professional display, the value of this program is clear.

How to Prepare for Your Holiday Lighting Installation

Getting ready for your holiday lighting installation in Chesapeake is simple when you know what to expect. Start by checking that your outdoor electrical outlets are working properly, since our team will need reliable power sources within one hundred feet of the installation area. Take a look at your gutters, fascia, and rooflines to make sure they are sturdy and in good condition. Clear any yard debris, outdoor furniture, or decorations away from the areas where our crew will be working. If you have pets, please keep them secured indoors or in a fenced area during the installation. Make sure all gates are unlocked so our team can access every side of your property without delay. A little preparation goes a long way toward a smooth and efficient setup.
