Exterior Pest Control

What Is the Exterior Pest Control Program?

The Exterior Pest Control Program is a preventative, perimeter-based service that protects your home by treating only the outside of the structure. Our technicians create a protective barrier around the foundation, entry points, and perimeter zones to stop pests before they enter your home. The program is performed quarterly, four times per year, following Integrated Pest Management principles focused on prevention, exclusion, and targeted application. Before your first treatment, we conduct a comprehensive exterior inspection to identify active pest activity, harborage areas, and conducive conditions. Products are selected based on observed pest pressure and seasonal activity. This program is most effective when performed consistently year-round to maintain an unbroken protective barrier.

What Areas Does Each Treatment Cover?

Every exterior treatment targets the specific areas where pests travel, hide, and enter your home. Our technicians treat the full foundation perimeter from ground level up to two to three feet on exterior walls, all entry points including doors, windows, utility penetrations and cracks, eaves and overhangs such as soffits and fascia boards, harborage areas like mulch beds within three feet of the foundation, and a three to six foot perimeter band around the entire structure. Methods include liquid barrier applications, granular treatments in harborage areas, crack and crevice treatment, spot treatments where active pest presence is observed, and removal of spider webs from eaves and entry areas. This thorough coverage ensures the barrier is complete with no gaps for pests to exploit.

What Pests Does This Program Target?

The Exterior Pest Control Program is designed for common exterior-dwelling household insects. Covered pests include ants, spiders, cockroaches, crickets, earwigs, millipedes, centipedes, silverfish, boxelder bugs, Asian lady beetles, and stink bugs during active seasons. Small, newly forming wasp nests smaller than a golf ball are removed at no charge during your routine visit. Established active wasp nests require a separate specialized removal service starting at $85. Pests not covered by this program include termites, bed bugs, fleas, ticks, rodents, and wildlife. These specialized pests require different products, equipment, and treatment methods available through dedicated programs. If you are dealing with any of these, we can connect you with the appropriate service.

How Does the Quarterly Treatment Schedule Work?

Each of the four annual treatments is tailored to the pest pressures most active during that time of year. The first quarter, January through March, focuses on establishing the foundation barrier and targeting overwintering insects along with early season ants and spiders. In the second quarter, April through June, treatments reinforce the barrier and target peak spring populations of ants, roaches, spiders, and crickets. The third quarter, July through September, is the highest pest pressure period of the year, with heavy harborage treatment to prevent indoor migration of ants, wasps, spiders, and roaches. The fourth quarter, October through December, reinforces the barrier against fall invaders seeking overwintering shelter. Products provide 60 to 90 days of effectiveness, making quarterly service the right interval for year-round protection.

Does This Program Include Interior Treatment?

The Exterior Pest Control Program treats only the outside of your home. Interior pest control is not included in this program. This exterior-only approach is effective for preventing most common household pests from entering the structure in the first place. If you are regularly seeing pests inside your home, or if you want comprehensive protection that also includes interior spot treatments, rodent monitoring, and bait station service, we recommend upgrading to the Complete Home Pest Control Program. The upgrade adds full interior service for an additional $30 per quarter, bringing the total to $129.97 per quarter. Interior treatment covers baseboards, corners, cracks, and other interior harborage areas. You can upgrade at any time by contacting our office.

Is the Treatment Safe for My Family, Pets, and Plants?

All products we use are EPA-registered and applied according to strict federal label requirements by state-licensed applicators. We apply products only where needed rather than as broad sprays, which significantly reduces exposure for people and pets. Treated areas are safe once dry, which typically takes one to two hours depending on temperature, humidity, and the specific products used. We recommend keeping children and pets off treated areas until fully dry. We maintain buffer zones around water features and vegetable gardens to protect sensitive areas. After treatment, avoid watering foundation areas for 24 hours and do not power wash treated walls for seven days. Material Safety Data Sheets are available upon request if you have questions about specific product ingredients.

How Should I Prepare Before Each Service Visit?

A little preparation before each visit helps ensure the treatment is as effective as possible. Secure pets indoors before your technician arrives, as service will not be performed if pets are loose in the treatment area. Unlock all gates to allow full perimeter access, since partial treatments create gaps in the barrier. Clear obstacles from the foundation by moving items at least two feet from exterior walls and removing any debris from the perimeter zone. Turn off irrigation systems 24 hours before and after treatment to keep surfaces dry for proper product adhesion. Mark any sensitive areas such as vegetable gardens or water features near the foundation. You do not need to be home during service. A reminder will be sent the day before each scheduled appointment to help you prepare.

What If I Still See Pests After Treatment?

Some increased pest activity within one to three days after treatment is normal and indicates the product is working as pests are flushed from harborage areas. Dead insects appearing three to seven days post-service are also a sign the treatment is effective. Products require seven to ten days to reach full effectiveness, so allow time before evaluating results. If you observe significant pest activity 14 days after treatment, contact us for a complimentary re-treatment included in your program. If you are seeing pests frequently inside your home, an upgrade to the Complete Home Pest Control Program may be needed. If heavy rain occurs within two hours of treatment, contact us immediately for a no-charge re-application. We stand behind our work and will diagnose any issues together.
