What Is the Premium Bed Care Program?

The Premium Bed Care Program is a year-round landscape maintenance service designed to keep your flower beds consistently clean and weed-free. Rather than one-time cleanups that require constant rescheduling, this program delivers structured, proactive care through 20 scheduled service visits per year. Each visit combines hand-weeding, targeted herbicide applications, and seasonal pre-emergent treatments to prevent new weeds from establishing. The program focuses exclusively on weed control within landscape beds — not mulch installation, pruning, or planting. This is a maintenance and suppression program, not a perfection guarantee. Environmental factors like wind-blown seeds and neighboring properties mean some breakthrough weeds may appear between visits, but our bi-weekly schedule during peak season ensures they are caught and treated quickly before they can establish and spread.

How Often Are My Beds Serviced?

The program operates on a variable schedule based on seasonal weed growth patterns. From March through October — the peak growing season — your beds are serviced bi-weekly, every 14 days. That totals 16 visits during this 8-month period. From November through February, when weed growth slows significantly, service shifts to once per month for 4 visits. The total is 20 service visits per year. The bi-weekly frequency during growing season is important because weeds can go from germination to seed production in as little as 3 to 4 weeks. Catching them at the seedling stage is far easier than managing established populations. Exact visit dates may shift by 2 to 3 days based on weather and routing, but you will always receive a text reminder the day before each scheduled visit.

Weed Control Methods We Use

Every service visit uses a combination of control methods based on weed type, size, and growth stage. Larger, established weeds are hand-pulled to remove the entire root system and provide immediate visual improvement. Smaller weeds and emerging seedlings are spot-sprayed with post-emergent herbicide for precise, effective control. Some visits may focus more on spraying than hand-pulling — this is a deliberate strategy, not a shortcut. Certain weeds like bermudagrass, bindweed, and nutsedge have deep root systems that spread when pulled before being treated. These must receive herbicide first, be allowed to die back over 7 to 21 days, and then be removed. Our technicians assess each bed upon arrival and choose the most effective approach based on conditions, weather, and the specific weeds present.

Seasonal Pre-Emergent Applications

Pre-emergent herbicides are one of the most powerful tools in long-term weed control. These products create a chemical barrier in the soil that prevents weed seeds from germinating in the first place. We apply pre-emergents three times per year — in January, May, and September — timed to target specific weed germination windows throughout all seasons. January prevents early spring annual weeds, May targets summer annuals during peak warm-season germination, and September prevents fall and winter annual weeds. We rotate between different pre-emergent products each season to prevent weed populations from developing resistance to any single chemistry. Each application provides approximately 8 to 12 weeks of protection. While pre-emergents alone cannot eliminate all weeds, they dramatically reduce the number of new plants that establish between service visits.

What Results Can You Expect?

This program is designed for consistent long-term suppression, not instant or perfect elimination. Properties on the program typically see an 80 to 90 percent reduction in weed populations compared to no treatment at all. Hand-pulled weeds provide immediate visual improvement after every visit. Weeds treated with post-emergent herbicide will show yellowing and wilting within 3 to 7 days and complete die-back within 7 to 21 days depending on weed type. Pre-emergent applications work invisibly — you will not see them working, but you will notice significantly fewer new seedlings emerging over the following 8 to 12 weeks. Complete weed elimination cannot be guaranteed because wind, birds, and neighboring properties continuously deposit new seeds. What you can expect is professionally maintained beds that look clean and consistently stay ahead of the problem.

Product Safety and Re-Entry Information

All herbicide products used in this program are EPA-approved and specifically labeled for landscape bed use. They are applied according to strict federal label requirements and are safe for people and pets once the application has fully dried — typically 2 to 4 hours depending on weather conditions. A door hanger is left at your front door after each visit listing the date of service, treatments applied, the safe re-entry time for pets and people, and any watering instructions. Our technicians use low-pressure equipment and apply carefully around desirable plants to avoid drift or overspray. If you have especially sensitive plants such as hostas, Japanese maples, or azaleas, please notify us so your technician can take extra precautions during application to protect them.

What Is Not Included in This Program

The Premium Bed Care Program focuses exclusively on weed control within landscape beds. It does not include mulch installation or refreshing, plant installation or replacement, shrub or tree pruning, seasonal cleanups, leaf removal, edging installation, or any other landscape tasks. These are available as separate services that can be paired with your bed care program. The program does not guarantee complete weed elimination — ongoing seed migration from the surrounding environment is outside our control. Certain extremely difficult weeds such as poison ivy, Virginia creeper, Japanese knotweed, and bamboo require specialized treatment approaches not included in the standard program and may be quoted separately. Sales tax does not apply to this service in Virginia under the agricultural and horticultural exemption.

Weather Rules and Site Requirements

Service visits are weather-dependent and may be rescheduled when conditions prevent safe, effective application. We do not apply herbicides when wind speeds exceed 10 mph, rain is expected within 2 to 4 hours, soil is saturated from recent rainfall, or temperatures exceed 85 degrees Fahrenheit or fall below 45 degrees. These rules follow EPA label requirements and are non-negotiable. For service to proceed as scheduled, all bed areas must be accessible — locked gates or blocked paths will result in rescheduling. Pets must be secured away from treatment areas before the technician arrives. If beds contain heavy debris covering more than 40 percent of the bed area, service will be rescheduled until the debris is removed. Weather-related rescheduling never incurs a fee, but a $50 rescheduling fee may apply after two or more customer-caused reschedules.
